At Orca Youth Rugby everyone is welcome!

Based in Ventura County, Orca Youth Rugby is designed to develop both beginners and experienced rugby players of all skill levels. We train boys and girls ages 6 to 14 to play one of the most challenging and enjoyable sports in the world: youth rugby!

Rugby has a place for all body types: small and fast, big and strong, tall or short.  Although rugby is wildly popular around the world, relatively few people in the U.S. are familiar with rugby, so we start from the beginning so everyone can learn.  Even though it looks like chaos to begin with, after a few weeks of practice and a game or two, even beginners “get it” and have a lot of fun!

Our goal is to foster the growth of a club with teammates from diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. We aim to provide our players with the necessary skills and opportunities to build a team focused on understanding and cooperation both on and off the field. As we introduce the game to new players it is our hope that when they move on from our team, they will continue to contribute to the game into adulthood.

With over 100 registered players in our previous season, Orca Youth Rugby Club offers teams for all ages and is the only club in Ventura County to do so!

Our Promise

Orca Youth Rugby is dedicated to promoting positivity and respect for all, while growing youth rugby players in a nurturing, safe and fun environment. We believe teamwork, communication and unity builds strength from the core. Our players will experience this on the fields with our dedicated Orca Coaches.

Many Orcas have gone on to play regional and state all-star teams, which tour to the likes of Oregon, Miami, or New York, and many more move on to play in college, whether they started playing rugby as child or in senior year of high school. Some girls have even been selected to participate in USA National camps! We aim to give players the tools to advance to the next level, should they choose.

Orca Youth Rugby exists to serve the youth of Ventura County.  Players come from all over Ventura County including Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Somis, Port Hueneme, Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, Westlake, Moorpark and Simi Valley.  All youth players, either new or experienced, are welcome.

Orca Youth Rugby is affiliated with Ventura County Rugby Club. Ventura County Rugby Club is a group of 3 clubs that offers rugby to youth, ladies and men. Check out the men’s and ladies clubs here.

Safety first

We teach our players the skills and techniques that keep our sport safe and we never play if safety cannot be ensured (poor pitch, unsafe weather etc).

Fun

Playing rugby is one of the best experiences that a child can have.  Everyone plays, everyone contributes, everyone has fun.

Respect

Create a sense of respect for the game, the players, and the referee.  There is no tolerance for talking back to the referee or showing disrespect to other players.

Teamwork

Scores are created by the team, wins are celebrated by the team, and we support each other in everything we do.
